How to Make Your Own Natural Toothpaste

How to Make Your Own Natural Toothpaste

There are so many great reasons to make your own toothpaste. It is plastic free and zero waste for starters and ingredients can be easily bought at a bulk food store. You can also tailor make the taste being natural, minty or even add in charcoal or turmeric. I remember when I first asked my kids to brush with charcoal my son cried as he thought his teeth were stained black! It was such a drama and a rather funny one to be honest. Now my kids love their home made toothpaste and love making it too.  This recipe is simple and easy and you can play around with it by adding items as mentioned above. Hope you enjoy it as much as we do! Please do tase #zerowastebali so I can repost and share the zero waste love.

Natural Toothpaste Ingredients:

Natural Toothpaste Instructions

  1. Put coconut oil in bowl
  2. Mix in other ingredients and stir well. If using semi-hard coconut oil, use a fork, if not, use a spoon. If you are using completely melted coconut oil, you will need to stir several times while the mixture cools to keep the baking soda incorporated.
  3. Put mixture into small glass jar
  4. Let cool completely.
  5. To use: dip toothbrush in and scrape small amount onto bristles. Could also use a small spoon to put on toothbrush.

Aim to make a new batch very 8 – 10 days or as required
